Workshop, Hackathon, Networking
Highlands and Islands Enterprise is hosting a week-long DataFest18 Fringe with support of partners.
The Fringe Events in the Highlands and Islands will be held at the new Inverness Campus at #hellodigital in the An Lochran building, a collaborative shared space with UHI and the SRUC and the events will be live-streamed online.
HIE’s Datafest Fringe Event will focus on the data opportunity, both now and in the future, for our businesses and communities in rural Scotland.
The Fringe Events will take place over the entire week, 19th - 23rd March 2018 - each day will have a different focus, including:
- Improving Lives through Data
- Fit for Healthy Living - How Artificial Intelligence can help you
- Industrial Applications of Machine-learning and Data Analytics
- Informed Communities of the Future
- Driving value from data
- Driving creative industries with data
As a collaborative and cross-sectoral opportunity, each session will be led by the relevant partner.
These Fringe Events in the Highlands and Islands will include a mix of presentations from inspirational key speakers, case studies, discussion and networking. The events will explore future opportunities and potential hakathon-style data-thons.
The objective is to bring experts to the region together with interested parties in order to debate and address questions such as:
How do we ensure that the rural economy is boosted by the data led industrial revolution?
Are our business and community enterprises exploiting data as a valuable commodity now and how do we support them to prepare for the future?
Is data helping businesses and community enterprises inform better decision making through better use of analytics?
Are our young people supported to grow, innovate, create in the data space - are we preparing them for the jobs and lifestyles of the future?
Contributors to the week will include The Data Lab, the Scottish Government, the National Records of Scotland, NHS: Information Services Division, The Highland Council, Robert Gordon University, Glasgow Caledonian University, Albyn Housing, Centre for Engineering Education and Development (CeeD), Open Data Instritute (ODI), the Digital Catapult, Open Data Institute (ODI), Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and Forest Enterprise Scotland (FES).
