Following on from the success of last year’s Datathon Fringe event, this year we are hosting the “Financial Services for Good” Datathon Challenge on 19 and 20 March in our Edinburgh Office in Saltire Court, Castle Terrace, Edinburgh. This is to include a Datathon as well as some afternoon presentations and panels.
With the launch of Open Banking & PSD2 coming into force, as well as the growing trend for consumers to share & utilise their data, 2018 is set to be the year where Financial Services begins to understand the potential impact and benefits this additional data can bring.
How can financial services institutions start to look beyond their own 4 walls and think about how they can utilise other open data sources to, not only improve their products and propositions for customers, but also to understand how they can combine it with their own data to start to answer some of society’s biggest problems, like global warming, financial hardship, homelessness and spiralling healthcare costs of an ageing population?
The challenge will focus on “Financial Services for Good” meaning our participants will be tasked with linking the concept of financial services information with trends in key social factors, focusing on health and wellbeing. This will then support the building of concepts, solutions and services to help tackle financial distress.
The event will start at midday on Monday 19 March and run through to midnight. After getting some rest, the teams will be welcomed back on Tuesday morning to continue before delivering their findings back to a judging panel and audience.
This Datathon will utilise a range of skills, including data analysis, data manipulation and data visualisation. Additionally, there will be a need to develop a business case and pitch this to a panel of judges at the end of the challenge.
The target audience for this is anyone who interested in data across all industries and participants & presentation attendees are welcome from all backgrounds including industry, students and academia.
As well as our judging panel, we are delighted to bring together some of the most experienced leaders in the FinTech space to give us their take on the industry. We are delighted to welcome Phil Grady, CEO of Castlight Financial and Nick Sherrard of Market Gravity. I’m also pleased to say we will also be joined byBijna Dasani, Head of Architecture and Innovation, Lloyds Banking Group and Professor Georgios Panos, Glasgow University. I’m sure you will agree, this line up will provide a great insight into the world of finance, Fintech and the wider data community.
