Edge Computing -The Power of the Partnership
CENSIS is one of 8 innovation centres in Scotland and supports companies to develop new sensor and imaging systems. Data is a key output for any sensor and edge computing has a critical role to play in the way data is processed in the future.
Aims and Objectives
This half day presentation will include an introduction to edge computing with real-life applications. Data produced by the Internet of Things (IoT) devices is normally sent to the cloud to be processed, however this can be costly and time consuming. Edge computing allows all or some of the data to be processed locally– i.e. at the actual source. This allows real-time local data analysis and reduces backhaul traffic from IoT devices.
CENSIS client, Beringar, will talk about their state-of-the-art built environment sensor which uses edge computing to help the NHS manage and enhance the productivity of its assets.
Siemens will also join us on the day to speak about MindSphere, their cloud-based, open IoT operating system that connects real things to the digital world. MindSphere offers cloud to edge computing and a strong partner ecosystem. Case studies will be provided showing the transformation of IoT data to productive business results.
