Lectures, Workshops and Hackathons
On the first day we will look at the challenge around creating the right environment to give individuals, companies and the industry the confidence to share data. This will include several relevant presentations on how other industries are approaching the problem of creating and managing “Data Trusts”.
On the second day we have an opportunity for individuals who would like to get involved in data hacks. We will be providing a Hackathon master class using real data from the oil and gas sector, to get people started on what it takes to get involved in data hacks. The day will include using tools to analysis the data using various techniques and algorithms.
The Oil and Gas Technology Centre (OGTC) intends to bring together practicing and potential domain experts, data engineers and data science practitioners from industry, academia and potentiallyd other industries to work together for a 1-2 day Data Driven Oil and Gas event.
The event will be delivered through a combination of speakers, educational sessions and more interactive sessions run as both hackathons and more focused sprints around specific challenges identified up front with the Industry.
The event will take place in the Innovation Hub at the OGTC office on Queens Road in Aberdeen, a space that has been specifically created to host industry events such as the one we are proposing. The OGTC has already delivered a large number of successful events in the Innovation Hub together with industry over the last 14 months, and has the capability to ensure a successful data fringe event.
Audience and participation size will likely vary depending on the specific elements of the event, but the venue has the capability of hosting up to 70 people at anyone time. the expectation is that the speaker, educational aspects will reach this maximum, while the other aspects may have a smaller more focused attendance.
Target audience for the event is Industry e.g. the regulator, operators and service providers, academia, and practitioners from other industries;
Focus on undergraduates / post graduates, but research and teaching staff also of course welcome
Data Engineers/ scientists / technical domain representation from Regulator, Operators and the technology and service providers
Oil and Gas Authority
Out of Industry
Data analytics companies operating in other industries
One key focus for the OGTC is promote more effective use and collaboration around data, to drive increased efficiency throughout the industry. Some of the key challenges addressed by the event is how does the industry make more data available, and then drive value and new capabilities based on that data. This in turn drives the industry capability to maximise economic recovery from the UK continental shelf one of OGTC's primary goals.
We also intend to collaborate and work closely together with other entities who are also proposing fringe events in Aberdeen, to ensure we are not duplicating effort, causing confusion among potential attendees etc.
